| WHAT IS A T1 FRAME? |
|
A T1 frame is a specific group of data comprised of one-hundred and ninety-two (192) data bits followed by one (1) framing or control bit.
The T1 is comprised of twenty-four (24) individual channels whereby each channel is sampled or analyzed eight-thousand (8,000) times per second, eight (8) bits at a time yielding a transmission capacity of sixty-four thousand (64,000) bits per second or 64 Kbps per channel. A T1 frame is therefore comprised of eight (8) bits from Channel 1, eight bits from Channel 2, eight bits from Channel 3 and so on, through Channel 24 (8 bits times 24 channels equals 192 bits). Another way of looking at it is, in one (1) eight-thousandth (1/8000) of a second a single frame comprised of eight (8) bits from each of the twenty-four (24) channels followed by a single control bit makes one single frame. So, eight-thousand (8000) T1 frames each consisting of one-hundred and ninety-three (193) bits are constructed every second.
As data is being transmitted at 1,544,000 bits per second, (1.544 Mbps) it is imperative that a control mechanism is in place, frequently checking the integrity of the transmission, correcting any errors that may occur nearly instanteously.
