Extended Super Frame (ESF) facilitates CRC (Cyclical Redundancy Check) error detection, facility data link communications as well as serving as a data framing technique. Unlike previous bit-robbing framing methodologies, ESF maintains 64 Kbps (DS0) channels while using only 8 Kbps of overhead out of every 1.544 Mbps (user data). Of the 8 Kbps of control data, 4 Kbps is utilized for facility data link, 2 Kbps for CRC and 2 Kbps for framing. ESF greatly improve customer service levels by generating realtime metrics of network health and performance.
